Nissan has detailed a new 5.6-liter Endurance V8 gasoline engine for the Titan pickup family.
The powerplant shares the same displacement as the outgoing V8, however the new design takes advantage of modernized tweaks including direct injection and variable valve timing.
The enhancements bring a significant improvement in output, delivering 390 horsepower (up 73 ponies) and 401 lb-ft of torque (up 16 lb-ft).
Redesigned pistons are built with a higher 11.2:1 compression ratio, bringing an improvement in fuel efficiency, while a multi-control valve is said to better manage the engine’s thermal efficiency compared to a traditional thermostat.
The engine will be mated exclusively to a seven-speed automatic transmission in the Titan XD, with adaptive shift control and downshift rev matching. The same gearbox will likely be used for the basic Titan, though Nissan has not yet confirmed specific details.
The V8 variants will arrive by spring 2016. The company has not yet announced pricing details or specific launch dates, however.
