    Was macht einen Sportwagen zu einem puren Sportwagen? Wenig Dämmung, niedriges Gewicht, kaum Komfort? Alles richtig, doch für viele Enthusiasten steht vor allem eine Sache ganz groß auf dem Ausstattungswunschzettel: ein manuelles Schaltgetriebe. Aston Martin hat nun die Gebete der Fans des dritten Pedals erhört und bringt den V12 Vantage S mit der Option auf eine manuelle Gangbox.

    Mit manueller Siebengang-Box
    Das neue Getriebe hat sieben Gänge. Dabei liegt der erste Gang der sogenannten Dog-Leg-Box ganz links unten unter dem Rückwärtsgang. So wird sichergestellt, dass die Gänge, die besonders häufig genutzt werden in dem doppelten H-Muster in der Mitte liegen und so möglichst schnell erreichbar sind. Wenn Ihnen das allerdings zu viel Purismus ist, können Sie weiterhin auf das automatisierte Siebengang-Sportshift-Getriebe zurückgreifen. Beide Varianten lassen den 573 PS starken V12 Vantage S in 3,9 Sekunden auf Tempo 100 sprinten. Schluss ist jeweils bei einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 328 km/h.

    Preise zur Markteinführung noch unbekannt
    Die ersten Auslieferungen des analogen Aston Martin V12 Vantage sollen im dritten Quartal des Jahres 2016 beginnen. Zu Preisen hat sich der Hersteller bislang noch nicht geäußert. Das Coupé mit automatisierter Gangbox startet derzeit noch bei 181.295 Euro, der Roadster bei 193.295 Euro.


    Neues Sport-Plus-Paket
    Außerdem neu für das Modelljahr 2017: ein Sport-Plus-Paket. Es sorgt für Änderungen beim Ex- und Interieur. So setzt es beispielsweise gezielt farbliche Akzente an der Umrahmung des Kühlergrills, den Seitenschwellern, dem Diffusor, den Bremszangen oder den Außenspiegeln. Im Innenraum wird die gewählte Außenfarbe dann mit passenden Kontrastnähten aufgegriffen.

    Neues Infotainment-System für alle Modelle
    Eine weitere Neuerung – dieses Mal betrifft sie alle Aston-Martin-Modelle – ist ein überarbeitetes Infotainment-System. Dieses beinhaltet ein moderneres Navigationssystem mit einer intuitiveren und neu gestalteten Benutzeroberfläche sowie eine vereinfachte Smartphone-Anbindung über Apple CarPlay.

    Der A3 erhält neue Rückleuchten

    Hinter dem Lenkrad ist nun das Audi virtual cockpit bestellbar

    Das meistverkaufte Audi-Modell ist der A3. Seit 2012 sind der fünftürige Sportback und der Dreitürer in ihrer aktuellen Form auf dem Markt. 2013 folgte die Version mit Stufenheck, 2014 das Cabrio. Jetzt hat Ingolstadt die hauseigene Kompaktklasse einem Lifting unterzogen. Was es beinhaltet? Vorhang auf für die überarbeiteten A3-Modelle.

    Optische Neuerungen
    Die optischen Neuerungen halten sich in Grenzen: Audi spendierte einen neuen Grill, neue Scheinwerfer (die jetzt denen des aktuellen A4 ähneln und wie beim Opel Astra auf Wunsch mit Matrix-LED-Technik arbeiten), neue Rückleuchten und einen neu gezeichneten Diffusor. Die Farbpalette wurde ausgeweitet und beinhaltet nun die neuen Töne: “Arablau”, “Kosmosblau”, “Nanograu”, “Tangorot” und “Vegasgelb”.

    Mehr Fahrerassistenzsysteme, mehr Technik
    Hier rüstet Audi den A3 ordentlich auf. Auf Wunsch gibt es ab sofort einen Stauassistenten, der in zäh fließendem Verkehr bis 65 km/h die meiste Arbeit übernimmt und auch der Querverkehrassistent ist neu. Im Innenraum zieht das Audi virtual cockpit mit dem 12,3-Zoll-TFT-Bildschirm hinter das Lenkrad und ersetzt gegen Aufpreis die analogen Instrumente. Außerdem ist das neue Dreispeichen-Lenkrad endlich mit Heizung bestellbar. Wer noch mehr Langstreckenkomfort wünscht, kann den Fahrersitz mit Massagefunktion ordern – auch hier lässt der Astra grüßen.


    Umfangreich überarbeitet: Das Motorenprogramm
    Das Motorenprogramm des Audi A3 umfasst sechs Aggregate – drei Benzin- und drei Diesel-Motoren. Ihre Leistungsspanne reicht von 110 bis 190 PS. Neu in der Liste ist ein 1,0-Liter-Dreizylinder-TFSI mit 115 PS und 200 Newtonmeter Drehmoment. Darüber hinaus gibt es noch die Plug-in-Hybrid-Variante namens A3 e-tron, die eine Systemleistung von 204 PS entwickelt, den A3 g-tron, der sich mit Erdgas oder Benzin bewegen lässt und den Audi S3, der mit einem Leistungsupdate nun 310 PS aus dem Zweiliter-Vierzylinder-Benziner quetscht.

    Markteinführung und Preis
    Die neue Audi A3-Reihe startet Anfang Mai in den Verkauf und die ersten Auslieferungen erfolgen dann im Sommer. Der Grundpreis für den Audi A3 mit der neuen Einstiegsmotorisierung 1,0-Liter-TFSI beträgt in Deutschland 23.300 Euro. Der alte Basispreis lag bei 22.800 Euro für den dreitürigen A3 mit 1,2-Liter-TFSI und 110 PS.

  • Porsche cleared in Carrera GT crash that killed Paul Walker

    Porsche has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the fatal car crash that killed actor Paul Walker. Walker was killed in 2013 when the Porsche Carrera GT he was riding in spun out of control and struck a row of trees.

    U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez ruled on Tuesday that Kristine Rodas, the widow of the Carrera GT driver, Roger Rodas, failed to provided evidence that the high performance car’s suspension failed before the crash. Gutierrez also dismissed Rodas’ claim that the Carrera GT lacked sufficient safety equipment.

    “Plaintiff has provided no competent evidence that Rodas’ death occurred as a result of any wrongdoing on the part of defendant,” Gutierrez wrote, according to The Detroit News.

    Porsche is facing two other lawsuits stemming to the crash — one from Walker’s daughter and another filed by the actor’s father — but the German automaker maintains that excessive speed was the main cause of the wreck. Porsche also alleges that improper maintenance and modifications were factors in the crash.

    Investigations by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol determined that high speed was the cause for the November 2013 crash. Investigators say the vehicle was traveling at 94mph at the time of the crash; Rodas maintains the Carrera GT was traveling at no more than 71mph. Investigators found no evidence of mechanical failure.

  • Tesla: ‘Hubris’ to blame for Model X delivery delays

    Tesla Motors has warned of Model X production delays, blamed on internal ‘hubris’ and supply issues.

    Reports circulating late last year suggested Tesla had quickly ramped up Model X assembly to 800 units per week, representing 75 percent of the 2016 production target. Official numbers from the first quarter point to a twelve-week delivery total of just 2,400 units, or 200 units per week.

    Tesla suggests “severe Model X supplier parts shortages” slowed production in January and February. The setbacks lasted “much longer than initially expected,” though the build rate was back up to 750 units per week by last full week of March.

    “The root causes of the parts shortages were: Tesla’s hubris in adding far too much new technology to the Model X in version 1, insufficient supplier capability validation, and Tesla not having broad enough internal capability to manufacture the parts in-house,” the company wrote in a statement to investors.

    The problems were associated with only a half dozen parts, out of 8,000 unique components, though a single missing part “means a car cannot be delivered.”

    The company claims to be addressing all three root causes to prevent similar problems from screwing up the Model 3 launch. Production hiccups have been mostly tolerated with the company’s high-end products, but the company faces increased scrutiny as it prepares to sell a mass-market car. Notably, the Model 3 has already received more than 276,000 pre-orders.

    Tesla chief executive Elon Musk recently claimed the Fremont facility, once owned by General Motors and Toyota, is capable of building 500,000 units annually. The company is at least a few years away from approaching the maximum theoretical production rate, which represents nearly 10,000 units weekly.

  • VW might miss deadline for diesel fix

    Volkswagen might miss a court ordered April 21 deadline to come up with a fix for its dirty diesels, an EPA official has revealed.

    U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ordered VW to come up with a solution for its emissions-cheating diesel models by April 21, but EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told Reuters on Tuesday that it’s possible Europe’s largest auto might miss that deadline. VW already whiffed on a March 24 deadline set by Breyer.

    At this point it remains unknown if VW will be able to come up with a remedy for the 580,000 vehicles that were rigged to pass EPA testing but then spew up to 40 times the legal limit of greenhouse gasses during normal driving. Officials in California have already indicated they might be willing to accept a partial fix, but the federal government hasn’t echoed that sentiment. If no agreement is reached, the case could go to trial this summer.

    “I wouldn’t take any single signal as the direction of those negotiations or where any final agreement – if we reach one – will end up,” McCarthy said.

    VW is already facing a suit from the U.S. Justice Department seeking up to $46 billion for rules violations. The FTC is also suing VW for false advertising of its “clean” diesel models.

  • Businessmen thrash Ferarri, Maseratis on China’s ‘most dangerous’ road

    Wealthy Chinese businessman Ni Haishan has reportedly encountered a bit of trouble on a perilous automotive adventure on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.

    Known as China’s ‘most dangerous’ road, the highway includes many unpaved sections, narrow switchbacks, river crossings, extreme grades, high altitude and other challenges.

    The more difficult segments are typically driven by high-riding, four-wheel-drive utility vehicles, however Ni Haishan appears to have felt that it would make for a more rewarding journey in his Ferrari F12, according to a Mirror report. He is said to have invited 10 of his top salesman, each following in a Maserati Ghibli that had been received as a bonus from the company earlier this year.

    Unsurprisingly, pictures posted on NetEase show the tribulations of such an ambitious journey. At least five of the Ghibli sedans are said to have required a tow to local garages to fix damage to the tires and chassis. The Ferrari also appears to have been damaged. One picture shows a carbon-ceramic brake seemingly intact, but the wheel bolts apparently sheared from the hub.

    “What’s the problem with showing off your wealth when you’re rich?” he told a Chengdu newspaper, as translated by the Mirror. “If I didn’t do so, people would think our business is doing poorly.”

  • Callaway to launch C7 shooting brake package this year

    Tuning firm Callaway has announced that its shooting brake-styled Corvette AeroWagen Package will go on sale later this year.

    Callaway’s AeroWagen Package essentially transforms any Chevrolet Corvette C7 Coupe into the fastest grocery getter on the block. The specially developed package replaces the Corvette’s standard hatch with a single-piece, carbon fiber lift back that promises a “significant” cargo space improvement over the standard ‘Vette. Callaway’s modified hatch uses all of the Corvette’s standard seals, lifts and latches, meaning the package can be converted back to factory original at any time.

    Although the AeroWagen package significantly alters the look of the Corvette coupe, the car retains its stock interior and factory furnished rear fascia. The package even retains the car’s targa roof. Callaway will install the kit on any C7 Corvette, as well as its specially tuned models.

    Installation of the AeroWagen Package is slated to begin during the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing was not announced.

    Although Chevy has never offered a wagon-variant of the Corvette to the general public, the company toyed with the idea during the first-generation of the sports car. The original Nomad concept from 1954 was littler more than a Corvette with a station wagon rear end.

  • Chevy Volt sales push ahead of Nissan Leaf

    The Chevrolet Volt‘s collective sales have again inched ahead of the Nissan Leaf in the US market.

    General Motors’ dedicated plug-in hybrid has achieved 3,987 sales in the first three months of the year, representing a 113-percent jump over the same period in 2015. The surge can be attributed to the second-generation’s initial arrival late last year and its more recent expansion to showrooms across the country.

    The Nissan Leaf, meanwhile, has tallied just 2,931 deliveries through the end of March. Sales have fallen by more than 28 percent since last year, despite the arrival of an optional 30-kWh battery for the 2016 model.

    Tracking sales back to initial market arrival of both models in 2010, the Chevy Volt has reached 92,737 units and the Leaf has counted 92,522 deliveries, as Autoblog points out.

    Although the Volt only leads by a few hundred units, the second-generation model appears to be carrying more momentum to widen the gap. The Leaf could regain its lead once a next-generation model arrives with a much larger battery, however launch timing for a significant redesign remains unclear.

  • Nissan teases GT-R Nismo ‘world record’ [Video]

    Nissan has released a short teaser video for a new world record attempt by the GT-R Nismo.

    “Coming at you in full force! No pause button here, just a #GTR #NISMO on a mission!” the vague description reads.

    The video was published by Nissan’s Middle East division and shows a GT-R Nismo on an airport runway, clad in “World Record Challenge” graphics.

    The car appears to be the current GT-R Nismo, rather than a Nismo variant of the
    2017 GT-R facelift. The current Nismo is no slouch, delivering 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque — enough power to launch the coupe around the Nurburgring circuit in just 7:08.69.

  • FCA recalls Ram 1500 to address power steering failures

    Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has launched a recall program for the 2015-2016 Ram 1500, affecting 442 units sold in the US market.

    The pickups may have been manufactured with contamination on the electric power steering (EPS) circuit boards. In some cases, the system will experience intermittent or complete loss of power-steering assist while underway.

    “If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash,” the recall documents note.

    All suspect EPS boards were built during one production run on a single production day at the supplier, explaining the relatively small batch of recalled vehicles.

    The first sign of trouble dates back more than six months, when the supplier first opened an investigation into complaints of power-steering failures. A total of 22 failed parts had been returned with contamination on the top side of the circuit board, though FCA claims to be unaware of any incidents or injuries.
