Chrysler 200 faces small-batch recall over melting wires

September 17, 2014
The 2015 Chrysler 200 already faces a small-batch recall over a manufacturing error that can lead to melted wires.

One of the cars recently failed an end-of-line audit at Chrysler’s Sterling Heights assembly plant, after inspectors encountered a stuck door switch. The root was was determined to be under-gauge wire in the door wire harness, which was produced by a supplier.

The smaller gauge wire is prone to overheating, potentially melting the insulation and causing an electrical short that could potentially cause a fire.

The company has not reported any actual fires, accidents or injuries caused by the problem, which is believed to be limited to eight vehicles manufactured between May 19 and June 21 of this year.

Affected vehicles will be brought in to replace the door wiring harness.
