Audi to expand TT range with crossover variant

September 17, 2014
Audi is seriously considering a high-riding, crossover variant of its all-new TT sports car, a top company executive has revealed.

With the crossover market booming worldwide, Audi is evaluating a sleek-looking utility vehicle that would be a spin-off of the TT sports car franchise. Audi teased the idea of a TT crossover with the TT offroad concept at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show.

At the international press launch of the all-new TT coupe in Spain, Audi development chief Ulrich Hackenberg revealed to Automotive News that third a TT variant is currently under development. Set to join the TT coupe and upcoming roadster, Hackenberg said that the TT offroad concept “provides an insight into how we might envisage a new model in a future TT family.”

Timing for a production version of the TT offroad remains unknown at this time, but the crossover is at least a year out. When it finally hits the market, the TT CUV will compete against BMW’s new X4 SUV.

The new TT sports car is expected to sell about 40,000 units per year. The addition of the TT offroad could easily double those sales figures.
