An SUV is viewed as a likely sibling to the long-wheelbase S600, which is primarily aimed at customers in Asian markets. The Mercedes-Benz GLS is rumored to be the top contender for Maybach upgrades.
“The theory is that we will do more Maybach models, but it will not be for all vehicles; any Maybach must make sense, because it is not just about putting an emblem on a car,” S-Class project manager Martin Hulder told Autocar in a recent interview.
The theoretical Maybach GLS would likely be outfitted with a more luxurious interior and potentially even more room legroom and headroom for back-seat passengers, along with a few modest exterior tweaks to help visually distinguish the upmarket model.
“Buyers rightly have high expectations of a Maybach, and we must be sure to always deliver on them,” Hulder added.
The company has not yet detailed which models are on the Maybach product roadmap.
