GM crossovers face sales halt over tire defect

January 22, 2015
General Motors has reportedly issued a sales-halt order for three crossover models that may have been outfitted with defective tires.
The pending recall campaign is expected to affect the 2015 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia, including approximately 6,300 vehicles still sitting in dealer inventory.

Speaking to Automotive News, Goodyear confirmed that the it had discovered small cracks in the tread of tires that were shipped to GM for use in the crossovers.

The tire maker claims that the cracks do not pose a safety risk, however a GM spokesman suggests the issue will eventually lead to a “non-compliance” recall for the affected vehicles.

The automaker has not yet disclosed how many vehicles with defective tires were delivered to customers.
