Lincoln wowed show goers with its Continental concept in NY, and it looks as though buyers will be just as floored. Although plenty of camo remains, it’s clear that the production version of the Continental will include most of the show car’s stunning cues.
Up front that will include the Continental concept’s unique headlight setup, which will likely retain LED elements with the brand’s logo. A version of the concept’s mesh grille will also make the jump to showrooms.
The road-going Continental should also keep the concept’s unique door handles, along with a C-pillar and trunk treatment similar to the design found on the Bentley Flying Spur.
Set to replace the current Lincoln MKS, the Continental will ride on the same front-wheel drive architecture that underpins the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. However, the Continental might ship standard with all-wheel drive in order to help its chances in a segment dominated by rear-wheel drive vehicles.
Power for the Continental will be provided by a 3.0L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine. The new engine will be based on Ford’s 2.7L EcoBoost motor, but will be reserved for the Lincoln brand to improve its prestige. A nine-speed automatic is tipped for shifting duties.
Our spies haven’t managed to scoop the Continental’s interior, but expect a toned-down version of what you saw in the concept.
Look for the Lincoln Continental to make its production debut within the next 12 months.
