GM to invest $5.4B in U.S. factories

April 30, 2015
General Motors has detailed plans to update some of its U.S. plants over the next three years with a $5.4 billion investment. GM will spend $783.5 million of that investment on plants in its home state of Michigan.
GM’s Pontiac Metal Center will be the recipient of a $124 million investment. The Detroit-based automaker also outlined plans to spend $520 million at its Lansing Delta Township facility. That money will be used for tooling and equipment for future vehicle programs. Another $139.5 million will go towards a new body shop and other upgrades at the company’s Pre-Production Operations in Warren.

“The common thread among our investments is the focus on product improvements that benefit customers,” said Cathy Clegg, vice president of GM North America Manufacturing. “Together with our UAW partners, we’re working hard to exceed consumers’ ever-increasing quality expectations.”

GM says the upgrades will enable the company to reduce production times while improving overall build quality.

GM will announce plans for the remaining $4.6 billion of its $5.4 billion total investment over the coming months.
