Spied: Chrysler 300 SRT to live on?

May 5, 2015
Despite reports to the contrary, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles might not be quite ready to pull the plug on the Chrysler 300 SRT.
Following FCA’s announcement that the standalone SRT brand would be rolled back under Dodge, the future of the Chrysler-branded 300 SRT was immediately put into question. FCA even publicly stated that the 300 SRT would not be back for 2015.

However, a new round of spy shots indicates that the 300 SRT might rejoin the Chrysler lineup for 2016. This prototype, spotted testing near Detroit, has all the telltale signs of an updated 300 SRT, including beefy Brembo brakes and even an SRT badge.

Of course it’s possible that Chrysler could rebrand its high-performance 300 to avoid a naming snafu altogether. For example, all of the typical SRT goodies could be offered as an option on the 300S model.

If the next 300 SRT, or whatever it ends up being called, follows the same blueprint as the Dodge Charger SRT, we can expect a 485 horsepower 6.4L V8 backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 300 also stands to adopt the Charger’s adaptive suspension system.

A Hellcat version of the 300 would be a welcome addition, but that model is uncertain at best.

If Chrysler does decided to give the green light to the 300 SRT, look for the muscle car to debut either this year or next.
