A new report coming out of England finds Lamborghini will introduce a rear-wheel drive version of the Huracán at the Los Angeles Motor Show that will open its doors later this month.
“We did it with the Gallardo so it might be an option,” hinted company CEO Stephan Winkelmann in a recent interview with British magazine Autocar. “We are a four-wheel-drive super-sports car [manufacturer] but why should we not do a rear-drive option? We need lots of derivatives. Customers expect it and we always need something new to talk about,” he added.
The yet-unnamed rear-wheel drive model will be billed as a lighter, more driver-focused alternative to the four-wheel drive Huracán. It might benefit from a sprinkling of model-specific visual add-ons, but it will most likely retain the naturally-aspirated, 601-horsepower 5.2-liter V10 and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
If the rumor turns out to be true, the rear-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracán will be introduced online in the coming weeks before greeting the show-going public in the City of Angels. Production will be limited to about 250 examples, so it’s not too far-fetched to assume the hardcore, rear-wheel drive coupe will carry a sizable premium over the four-wheel drive model.
Want one? You might be out of luck, as Autocar speculates most of the production run has already been spoken for by loyal customers and wealthy collectors who were told about the model ahead of time.
