LA LIVE: Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport

November 19, 2015

Porsche has introduced its track-ready Cayman GT4 Clubsport package at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first non-911-based race car from Porsche since the 968.

The track-focused build shares the same 3.8-liter flat-six engine as the basic Cayman GT4, delivering 385 horsepower. The road-going coupe’s six-speed manual transmission has been swapped out in favor of a paddle-shifted double-clutch gearbox, while a mechanical locking differential has been added to the rear axle.

Engineers borrowed many of the lightweight front suspension components from the 911 GT3 Cup. Other racing upgrades include 15-inch brake rotors on all four corners, a welded-in safety cage, racing bucket seat and six-point harness.

The stripped-down Clubsport build weighs in at 2,866 pounds, representing a savings of at least 88 pounds compared to the standard Cayman GT4.

Porsche has not yet released performance figures, but the lighter Clubsport package and its quick-shifting DCT should be capable of marginally beating the street coupe’s 4.2-second zero-to-60 mph benchmark and 183 mph top end.

Pricing for the Cayman GT4 Clubsport will presumably be noticeably higher than the street car’s $84,600 entry point.
