LA LIVE: 2017 Land Rover Evoque Convertible

November 19, 2015
Land Rover has introduced the 2017 Range Rover Evoque Convertible at this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show.

Previewed last month by six highly-realistic wire sculptures, the Convertible is nearly identical to the regular Evoque Coupe from the rocker panels up to the belt line. Above that, it’s fitted with a power-operated cloth soft top that retracts at the push of a button in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph.

Designed by Webasto, the cloth soft top is exclusively available in Ebony Black. It neatly folds into a compartment located right above the cargo compartment, and aluminum roll bars integrated into the quarter panels pop up in 90 milliseconds in the event of a rollover.

The Evoque Convertible ushers in a 10.2-inch high-resolution touch screen that runs Land Rover’s new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. The cabin offers seating for four passengers, and trunk space checks in at 8.9 cubic feet regardless of whether the top is up or down.

Land Rover hasn’t made any major mechanical updates. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 251 lb-ft. of torque at 1,750 rpm. Bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission, the turbo four sends the Evoque Convertible from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 112 mph.

The 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible is scheduled to go on sale halfway through next year with a base price of $50,475.
