LA LIVE: 2017 Infiniti QX30

November 19, 2015
Infiniti has revealed the production 2017 QX30 crossover, presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Serving as a new entry-level model to help the brand fulfill its global growth ambitions, the QX30 retains many of the bold design elements from its conceptual counterpart. The front fascia has been toned down a bit, adding a more traditional lower bumper and fog lights.

The crossover’s sculpted body closely resembles the new Q30 hatchback, but with an elevated ride height, higher driving position, roof rails and a slightly more rugged look. Both models follow Infiniti’s modern design language, centered around a double-arch grille with three-dimensional mesh.

Interior designers implemented an asymmetrical layout, with wave shapes and twisting lines. Standard trim levels are finished in black cloth, while higher packages are clad in black or beige Nappa leather.

The company claims its “spinal support” research has led to a superior seat design, balancing load distribution to minimize pressure on back muscles. The crossover is also said to have some of the lowest noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels in the premium compact segment, thanks to extensive use of sound-absorbent materials and a rigid body structure.

Powertrain details remain unclear, though the QX30 will likely borrow the Q30′s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 204 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Infiniti hopes the QX30 will attract a “new generation” of buyers to the brand when it arrives in showrooms beginning mid-2016.
