A new line of Toyota performance trucks has taken the stage at the Chicago Auto Show. The Toyota TRD Pro Series of off-road equipment will be offered on 4×4 models of the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner.
Inspired by Toyota’s long history of off-road success at races like the Baja 500 and 1000, the three Inferno Red trucks were unveiled on a giant indoor dirt course. Unfortunately, early rumors of a Ford Raptor challenger have proven false, but the TRD Pro packages are still the most aggressive desert running packages you can get on Toyota trucks.
All TRD Pro Series trucks will receive Bilstein remote reservoir shocks matched with TRD springs, resulting in a two-inch lift for the Tundra and Tacoma and 1.5-inch lift for the 4Runner. Underbellies are protected by TRD skid plates and the two pickups receive additional burble from a TRD stainless steel exhaust.
Visually, TRD Pro trucks are set apart by a black grille that evokes classic Toyota truck styling cues. You can get the TRD Pros in any color as long as it’s black, white, or the new Inferno red. Black alloy wheels — 18 inches for the Tundra, 17 for the 4Runner and 16-inch beadlocks for the Tacoma — are unique to the series. As is the custom, TRD logos are are plastered liberally throughout the vehicles, from tailgate to floor mats to shift knobs.
Last but not least, to coincide with the TRD Pro debut Toyota has released a smartphone game based on the 80s arcade classic Ironman Stewart’s Super Off Road. Now, instead of Reagan era Baja Toyota pickups you can race the three TRD Pro rigs. The game is available at www.ToyotaSuperOffRoad.com.
