After launching as a roadster and recently gaining a voluptuous coupe derivative, the Jaguar F-Type may be on track to receive a third bodystyle.
Taking a page from the Porsche 911 playbook, Jaguar is weighing the addition of a Targa variant to the F-Type range, company design chief Ian Callum revealed to Auto Express.
Like the latest 911 Targa, the F-Type Targa would cater to sun worshipers with a hard top roof that could retract to let the rays shine in.
While the project is currently under consideration, feasibility hurdles must be cleared before production can be green lighted.
“The issue with the Targa is volume,” Callum said. “If you think of Porsche, 10 per cent of its cars are Targa, 10 per cent of ours is less than theirs. You have to work out the business case but we have considered it, it’s not decided yet.”
Aside from the Targa, recent rumors have suggested that the F-Type lineup could also get a new turbocharged 2.0-liter “Hotfire” four-cylinder. In addition to being a more efficient and less expensive option, the mill could make for a leaner, more agile F-Type.
