Geneva-bound Mazda Hazumi concept leaked

February 25, 2014

A leak has revealed the Mazda Hazumi concept ahead of its official debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show. The Hazumi is named after the Japanese word for “bounce.”

The leak confirms the Hazumi takes the form of a close-to-production concept that accurately previews the next generation of the Mazda2 subcompact, one the oldest member of the company’s lineup. The concept closely follows Mazda’s KODO design language with slender headlights, curvaceous flanks and an elegant five-point grille. The rear end appears to feature an upright hatchback, a roof-mounted spoiler and sharp, triangular tail lamps.

Interior shots are being kept under wraps until the hatchback’s formal debut but expect a well-finished cockpit with a clean layout and a generous serving of high-tech equipment.

Full details about the Mazda Hazumi concept will emerge in the coming days. The next Mazda2 could bow as soon as next fall’s Tokyo Motor Show and land in U.S. showrooms as a 2015 model shortly after.

New Skyactiv
Mazda will also showcase a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv-D turbodiesel engine in Geneva. The mill will be widely used in Europe as an entry-level oil-burner and it might make its way to the United States under the hood of smaller models like the Mazda3.
