Datsun teases next model [VIDEO]

March 14, 2014
Nissan’s reborn Datsun division has published a teaser video that previews its next model. Designed largely with the Russian market in mind, the yet-unnamed car will debut early next month at a private event.

As previously reported, Datsun’s next model stretches 168 inches long, 67 inches wide and 59 inches tall, dimensions that make it roughly the same size as a Toyota Yaris sedan. The teaser video confirms the car will feature an angular front fascia dominated by Datsun’s trademarked hexagonal grille and a sporty-looking bumper with fog lights and a large air vent.

Overall, the sedan’s styling falls in line with the design language inaugurated last year by the tiny GO hatchback, the first Datsun of the 21st century.

The sedan is expected to pack a no-frills cockpit with just the bare minimum level of equipment. Datsun is not cutting corners on safety and all trim levels will feature front airbags as well as ABS brakes.

Rumors indicate the sedan rides on a modified version of the Lada Kalina‘s platform. Power will likely come from a Lada-sourced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that will send power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Official details about Datsun’s next sedan will emerge on April 4th. Like the rest of the automaker’s lineup, the sedan will distributed exclusively in emerging markets and it will not be sold in the United States.
