Panoz celebrates 25 years with limited-edition model

March 14, 2014
American sports car manufacturer Panoz is celebrating its 25th birthday by producing a limited-edition variant of the Esperante Spyder.

Fittingly named 25th Anniversary Edition, the hand-built roadster tips the scale at approximately 3,300 pounds thanks to a chassis crafted entirely out of aluminum. Buyers can specify whether they want the body made out of carbon fiber or aluminum.

The Panoz Esperante Spyder comes with a 5.4-liter all-aluminum V8 engine that makes 430 horsepower when naturally aspirated and 575 ponies when fitted with a supercharger. Both engines send power to the rear wheels via a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic gearbox controlled by shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

Drawing from the company’s Le Mans expertise, the range-topping Esperante Spyder GT packs an updated version of the 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that puts out over 800 ponies thanks to a host of modifications including a larger supercharger. Both a manual and an automatic gearbox are available.

Inside, the limited-edition Esperante Spyder packs adjustable seats upholstered in Nappa leather with Alcantara inserts, a configurable instrument cluster, A/C and a dash-mounted iPad Mini that replaces the infotainment system. Nearly every aspect of the car can be customized during the production process.

Unsurprisingly, Panoz will build just 25 examples of the 25th Anniversary Edition Esperante Spyder. Pricing starts at $189,000 before options are factored in.

2014 promises to be a big year for Panoz. In addition to celebrating its 25th anniversary, the automaker is gearing up to inaugurate its brand new headquarters in Braselton, Georgia, and preparing to expand its lineup with at least two new models.
