Land Rover introduces Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase for China

April 24, 2014
Land Rover has introduced a hybrid version of its Range Rover Long Wheelbase at the Beijing motor show. Like its short wheelbase counterparts, the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase pairs a diesel engine with an electric motor to boost the SUV’s overall efficiency.

Set to become China’s first diesel-electric hybrid, the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase will be available for order next month, with the first deliveries scheduled for the end of the year. At this time it appears as though the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase will only be offered in the Chinese market, but that could change in the coming years.

The Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase pairs a 3.0L diesel V6 with 35kW electric motor, netting a total system output of 340 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Shifting through an eight-speed transmission, the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase should be able to accelerate from 0-60 in about 7 seconds while returning 44mpg on the European cycle.

Land Rover says the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase can travel at speeds up to 30mph for 1 mile on battery power alone.

Despite its extra electric motor and battery pack, the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase doesn’t compromise on space or capability. Like its conventionally-powered stablemate, the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase offers an additional 7.3-inches of rear seat legroom and can also wade through 35.4-inches of water.

Land Rover has not released pricing for the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase.
