Appropriately called “Create a cool video game car for Volkswagen,” the contest calls on students to design a car that features recognizable styling cues from the automaker’s design language. The concept can adopt any body style as long as it’s brand new design and not based on an existing model.
The students can work individually or in teams of two designers. Each proposal will be evaluated based on innovation, design execution and how closely the project follows the guidelines laid out by Volkswagen.
The automaker is looking forward to receiving the submissions because it believes asking students to draw a concept car brings new ideas to its design studio.
“We are always interested in the perspective and attitude of young designers to mobility topics and this is why we decided to take a new approach to finding fresh design talents with the Design Contest,” explained Volkswagen design chief Klaus Bischoff in a statement.
The contest will run until August 15th, 2014, and the winner will be chosen by a panel of experts from Volkswagen’s design team the following month. The winning car will be featured in an unidentified video game and the top three designers will be awarded a six-month internship at the Volkswagen Design Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany.
