Frankfurt LIVE: GM’s Opel Insignia Country Tourer wagon

September 11, 2013
Opel and its Vauxhall subsidiary have taken the wraps off of a new rugged-style version of their popular Insignia Sports Tourer station wagon.

Slotting in at the top of the Insignia’s lineup, the new Country Tourer is more than just an appearance package: It boasts standard all-wheel-drive that utilizes a Haldex clutch and an electronic limited slip differential to maintain optimum grip. Opel says that the car’s robust traction enhancements and roughly 0.8 inch taller suspension will help it go further than other wagons.

To look the part, it gains a wider and deeper grille and contrasting anthracite-colored cladding around the side sills and fender flares. in addition, LED daytime running lamps and LED brake and taill lights are included.

The Insignia Country Tourer will be available in Europe with a choice of 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines – a range-topper with 192 horsepower and 295 lb-ft. of torque and an entry-level configuration with 163 ponies and 280 lb-ft. of torque. Both engines are related to the 2.0-liter turbodiesel that just debuted in the Chevrolet Cruze diesel now available in the U.S.

In the United Kingdom, the Insignia Country Tourer will be sold as a Vauxhall (pictured).

Although the sedan version of the Insignia is closely related to the North American-market Buick Regal, the likelihood of the Insignia Country Tourer making its way here is extremely low. <![CDATA[
