Land Rover teases fastest factory-built Range Rover [VIDEO]

June 17, 2014
Land Rover has published a brief teaser video that previews the fastest Range Rover ever built by the factory. Likely arriving as a limited-edition model, the yet-unnamed SUV will a modified version of the existing Range Rover Sport (pictured) designed by the company’s newly-formed Special Operations division.

The video reveals little about the upcoming performance-focused Range Rover but British magazine Auto Express reports the SUV will pack a 542-horsepower 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine borrowed from the Jaguar XJR sedan. The mill will send power to all four wheels, enabling the Sport to reach 62 mph from a stop in 4.8 seconds and to go on to a top speed of approximately 165 mph.

The limited-edition Range Rover Sport will stand out from its regular-production sibling thanks to a deep front bumper with large air intakes, bespoke side skirts and a new rear bumper that features quad exhaust pipes and an air diffuser. Model-specific alloy wheels will round out the exterior updates.

Auto Express believes the Special Operations-designed Range Rover Sport will cost approximately £100,000, a lofty sum that converts to nearly $170,000. Whether the SUV will be offered in the United States is not known.

Additional details about the hot-rodded Range Rover will emerge in the coming days. Land Rover has not announced when it will fully unveil the SUV but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it bow at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that will open its doors in England on June 26th.
