Peugeot teases 208 GTi 30th Anniversary

June 22, 2014
Peugeot has published an enigmatic teaser image that previews a limited-edition version of the 208 GTi hot hatch. Appropriately called 30th Anniversary Edition, the car is designed to celebrate the 30th birthday of the iconic 205 GTi.

The teaser image suggests the limited-edition 208′s front end will be nearly identical to that of its regular-production counterpart save for a discreet Union Jack flag painted on a piece of trim located below the radiator grille. The car is expected to get other upgrades inside and out such as bespoke rims, a more aggressive body kit and edition-specific seats.

Peugeot has hinted the commemorative 208 GTi will feature a small power upgrade over the stock GTi but it is keeping official technical specifications under wraps until the car’s full debut. The regular 208 GTi is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that sends 197 horsepower and 203 lb-ft. of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. It reaches 62 mph from a stop in 6.8. seconds and goes to a top speed of over 140 mph.

Full details about the Peugeot 208 30th Anniversary Edition will be published in the coming week. The car is scheduled to make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that will open its doors on June 26th, and it will go on sale across Europe shortly after.
