The power-steering pressure hose on the 2013 model does not have sufficient clearance around the transmission’s torque-converter housing. Contact can wear a hole in the tube and allow fluid to leak, eventually resulting in loss of power-steering assistance and increasing the risk of a crash.
The problem was discovered during inspection of finished vehicles at one of Mitsubishi’s factories in Japan. The company has not received any field reports of failure in customer vehicles.
The tight clearance is only a problem with the six-speed transmission on the 2013 Outlander, however a handful of 2007-2012 models received new replacement transmissions that could cause the same problems.
Affected vehicles will be serviced to replace the pressure and return tubes. The company has not yet announced a time-frame for completing the repairs.
