Global shipments totaled 727,000 for the quarter, an increase of 10 percent. The strong performance was driven primarily by US retail sales, which jumped by 16 percent.
The company earlier this month announced its 52nd consecutive month of year-on-year sales gains across all of its core brands. Unsurprisingly, Jeep was the biggest winner with a 41-percent jump.
Pending finalization of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merger, the new entity recently announced a significant expansion plan that aims for seven million annual sales by 2018. Some analysts doubt the company can achieve such lofty goals while maintaining nine distinct brands.
In the meantime, Chrysler has adjusted its 2014 sales forecast from 2.8 million to 2.9 million vehicles.
