Ram considering production Rumble Bee

September 21, 2013
Chrysler’s Ram brand is considering moving forward with a production version of its Rumble Bee concept, a top executive has revealed. The Rumble Bee show truck was unveiled earlier this year at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Speaking with Edmunds, Dave Sowers, Ram’s head of marketing, revealed that the automaker is currently shopping the idea of a production Rumble Bee to dealers. If dealers react favorably, the Rumble Bee could eventually make regular production.

“We will take it to some dealer shows and talk to dealers,” Sowers said. “We try to listen to the dealers. They know their marketplace.”

He added: “It is something that we could execute.”

However, a production Rumble Bee wouldn’t fully replicate the concept. Things like matte paint and a real bee embedded in the shifter would be left out to simplify the assembly process.

“Some of the things that we put on the truck weren’t volume production possible for us,” Sowers said. “That flat yellow paint would be a little bit of a challenge in the plant and the actual bee in the shifter would be tough to execute.”

The Rumble Bee was powered by a 395 horsepower HEMI V8 and rode on a suspension that was two inches lower than the standard Ram 1500. The Rumble Bee would be a natural rival for Ford’s recently introduced Tremor F-150.
