MG introduces facelifted MG6 GT

September 7, 2014
SAIC-owned MG has published the first official images of the facelifted MG6, the largest member of its lineup.

Introduced in 2009, the 6 gets a sharper look thanks to revised headlights, an updated radiator grille with a larger MG emblem and a new front bumper that incorporates a row of LED daytime running lights. Although the pictures depict the five-door GT-badged variant of the 6, the more expensive four-door 6 Magnette will likely gain the same front end.

The modifications carried out to the 6′s rear are minor and largely limited to new-look tail lamps and a re-drawn bumper. New alloy wheel designs and additional paint colors round out the mid-cycle update.

MG promises the updated 6′s cockpit is built with better materials than the outgoing model. The refreshed 6 also packs more tech features including an electronic handbrake and the latest generation of the company’s touch screen-based infotainment system.

MG is not making any mechanical modifications, meaning the 6 carries on with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 133 horsepower when naturally aspirated and 160 ponies when it is fitted with a turbocharger. In the United Kingdom, the sedan is offered with a 1.9-liter turbodiesel mill that sends 148 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of twist to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Made in China, the updated MG MG6 will go on sale in select global markets including the United Kingdom before the end of the year.
