The company’s “Accelerated Durability Test” uses the famed track, also known as the “Green Hell,” to simulate a vehicle’s normal lifespan cycle during just four to six weeks of hot laps, averaging nearly 20 laps per day.
A team of six professional test drivers also assess handling characteristics in both wet and dry conditions on the 12.8-mile track, helping engineers fine-tune suspension components early in the development process.
“In total, the intensive testing undertaken in the last year is equivalent to more than 1.4 million km (~870,000 miles) of normal road use,” the company said in a statement.
The company established the 39,000-square-foot facility directly on the circuit property, requiring 15 months of construction and an investment of approximately $8.3 million USD.
Several other major automakers, including BMW and Jaguar, also have dedicated test facilities at the Nurburgring complex.
