CEO Matthias Muller cautions that there has been no final decision, but the company has not yet encountered any obstacles that stand in the way of a move toward a gasoline-electric system.
“We have been doing some analysis to see whether it will work,” he told CarAdvice.
The German automaker already offers several hybrids, ranging from the Cayenne S E-Hybrid crossover to the 918 Spyder supercar, but it has been reluctant to bring the same technology to its iconic 911 series — aside from track cars such as the GT3 R Hybrid.
Muller suggests hybrids are under consideration for the entire range, but not before the next-generation Boxster and Cayman move to four-cylinder engines.
If Porsche does decide to make a hybrid 911, it is unlikely to arrive before the all-new model in 2018 or later.
