The off-road-ready concept is wider than the production Colorado Z71 by four inches. It’s also taller, thanks to an aggressive body lift, allowing for improved approach and departure angles (30.7 and 22.7 degrees, respectively, vs. the Z71′s 25 and 21).
Under the hood, the long-anticipated Duramax is good for 181 horsepower and a whopping 369 lb-ft of torque at just 2,000 rpm. Part of GM’s new global diesel engine family, it features a variable-geometry turbocharger for flexible power delivery and a balance shaft to improve NVH. Power goes to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Colorado ZR2 features mono-tube shocks provided by the renowned off-road experts at King. Paired with new front control arms, the remote-reservoir shocks provide increased suspension travel. Also present are front and rear electronic-locking differentials for greater traction and control.
To account for the widened front and rear track, custom wheel flares have been fitted. 275/65R-18 off-road tires on 18″ aluminum wheels complete with a bed-mounted spare round out the ZR2′s aggressive exterior treatment.
