LA LIVE: 2016 Acura ILX

November 21, 2014
Acura has revealed its 2016 ILX at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The re-engineered ILX features a new powertrain, more aggressive exterior styling and significantly upgraded interior elements.
New for 2016 is a 201-horsepower, direct-injected, four-cylinder i-VTEC engine coupled to a unique automatic transmission. Acura’s eight-speed is a dual-clutch unit with a torque converter, allowing for crisp, fast shifts without sacrificing the torque multiplication advantages of a traditional automatic.

The front and rear fascias have been overhauled for a sportier, more dynamic appearance and the available A-SPEC package adds more sporty flair.

Under the skin, the 2016 ILX’s chassis has been upgraded. Targeting a “Good” rating in the IIHS’ new small-overlap front crash test and a “Top Safety Pick+” rating overall, Acura re-engineered the ILX to its “Advanced Compatibility Engineering” body structure specifications, which allow for more efficient absorption and dispersion of energy in a front-end collision.

Additional chassis improvements include increased body rigidity and more widespread use of noise-reducing materials to improve the ILX’s handling and interior comfort.

Buyers can also now choose from six different equipment levels, from the standard ILX to the ILX Technology Plus Package. All models can now be equipped with the AcuraWatch safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation and collision mitigation braking.

The 2016 ILX will launch to customers in early 2015.
