The GT-R has undergone constant tweaks since its introduction at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The latest set of upgrades includes revised dampers that improve the coupe’s handling, more powerful Brembo brakes on all four corners, a re-worked steering system that transmits less vibrations at idle and additional sound deadening material in the trunk.
Additionally, Japanese buyers have access to a new Nismo-tuned Track Edition model that is equipped with a specific suspension setup, adhesive bonding that enhances the car’s structural rigidity, flared front fenders and six-spoke forged wheels wrapped by track-ready Dunlop tires.
Sources close to Nissan have revealed that the bulk of the upgrades detailed above will make their way to the U.S.-spec GT-R in time for the 2016 model year. Whether or not the Track Edition model will travel across the Pacific is up in the air.
GT-R 45th Anniversary Edition
Nissan will kick off the 2015 GT-R’s production run with a limited-edition model designed to celebrate the nameplate’s 45th year on the market.
Appropriately dubbed 45th Anniversary Edition, the coupe stands out from the stock GT-R thanks a special paint color called Silica Brass and a host of minor details including a model-specific emblem located at the bottom of the center console and a metal plaque riveted in the engine bay.
Nissan has not made any mechanical modifications, meaning the 45th Anniversary Edition boasts a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 tuned to produce 541 horsepower at 6,500 rpms and 466 lb-ft. of torque between 3,200 and 5,800 rpms. Linked to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels, the V6 rockets the GT-R from zero to 62 mph in a blisteringly quick 2.9 seconds.
Nissan will build just 45 examples of the GT-R 45th Anniversary Edition. Each one will carry a base price of ¥10,787,040 (about $91,500) and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis starting next February.
