Engineers have outfitted the LaFerrari’s V12 engine with new camshafts, a redesigned intake manifold and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic lifters, helping bring output up to 848 horsepower.
The KERS hybrid system has also been revamped, squeezing an extra 27 ponies out of the electric motor for a grand total of 1,035 horsepower from battery and gasoline power.
The front end has received a twin-profile spoiler and large splitter, based on Ferrari’s winning design from the GT category of the WEC. Two vertical elements, and endplate and a dive plane work in conjunction with vertical fins to generate a vortex that helps increase downforce and isolate airflow from the underbody to improve efficiency. Altogether, the aerodynamic tweaks help increase downforce by 50 percent compared to the basic LaFerrari.
Pirelli P-Zero racing slicks help keep the FXX K planted on the track, with integrated sensors that feed data to the traction-control system. The intervention level of the electronic differential, F1-Trac traction control and side slip-angle control (Racing SSC) have all been calibrated for the track, while the ABS — connected to Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes — can be controlled using a five-position button on the steering wheel.
Ferrari has not yet announced pricing details or a release date for the FXX K.
