Porsche’s rumored Tesla Model S-fighting sedan has been detailed in yet another report.
The model is allegedly being referred to internally as the 717, built upon the next-generation MSB platform, unnamed sources have told Car. Corroborating earlier reports, the latest information suggests Porsche’s electric car will be slightly smaller than the Panamera, with four doors and four seats.
The company is said to be eyeing several different output options, ranging from 400 to 600 horsepower, with an electric range of more than 300 miles. The power will allegedly be delivered via two electric motors, enabling all-wheel drive and four-wheel torque vectoring. Four-wheel steering is also mentioned as a differentiating feature.
Engineers were reportedly forced to tuck batteries wherever they could fit, separating the cells into more than 100 pouches that fit in the center tunnel, along the bulkheads and even in the sills and footwells. If true, the arrangement reflects modifications to a platform that is primarily designed for internal-combustion engines.
The design expected to be similar to the Sport Turismo concept that first appeared in 2012, adopting design cues from the 911 family and the Panamera. The company is believed to be targeting a curb weight below the Model S, potentially enhancing driving dynamics and range.
The company has allegedly set a launch target of 2019, though it is unclear if the project is beyond the feasibility-assessment stage.
