Morgan previews Geneva-bound sports car [video]

February 23, 2015
England’s Morgan Motor Company has announced plans to unveil a new model at the Geneva Motor Show that will open its doors to the press in a little over a week.
Official details about the yet-unnamed model are still few and far between but the company’s dark teaser image hints that the model will share its tall radiator grille with vertical slats and its oval headlights with the Aero, the most modern member of Morgan’s retro-flavored lineup. Whether the new model is based on the Aero Coupe or the topless Aero Superports is up in the air.

Inside, the car will offer space for two passengers on bucket seats upholstered with quilted leather. Like all Morgans, the new model will be mostly hand-built in Malvern, England, making it possible for buyers to customize nearly every aspect of it.

Morgan is keeping technical details under wraps until the beginning of the Geneva show. The standard Aero is powered by a BMW-sourced 4.8-liter V8 engine that sends 367 horsepower and 370 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or a ZF-built six-speed automatic. It takes 4.5 seconds to hit 62 mph from a stop and is capable of reaching a top speed of 170 mph.

A full set of details about Morgan’s next sports car is expected to emerge in the coming days. Stay tuned to Leftlane for live images of straight from the Palexpo convention center in Geneva starting on Tuesday, March 3rd.
