The company suggests the rear taillight assemblies are prone to water ingress, potentially from heavy rain or a car wash, due to an insufficient seal.

In some instances, the water can affect the range switch signals. Symptoms include an incorrect gear displayed on the instrument panel, illumination of a MIL trouble light, or even delayed engagement of the selected gear.
“The incorrect gear being commanded can increase the risk of unintended vehicle movement and of a crash,” the recall documents warn.
The problem was discovered after investigation of several field reports. One claimed the vehicle that could not shift out of park, while another noted delayed gear engagement.
The company will begin sending owner notification letters in the second quarter.
