Construction is expected to cost $160 million and support more than 1,000 new jobs from numerous third-party suppliers that will establish a presence in the park.
“This project is a key component to the long-term sustainability of our U.S. business as we close in on a goal of 10 percent U.S. market share,” said Nissan executive VP Jose Munoz.
The Japanese automaker boasts that 85 percent of its vehicles sold in the US are built in North America. The Smyrna campus currently employs 8,400 workers, assembling nearly 650,000 vehicles in 2014. Models include the Altima, Maxima, Leaf, Rogue, Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60.
