Big investment in GM Technical Center coming?

A major overhaul could be in store for General Motors’ Warren, Michigan Technical Center. The automaker is apparently planning to add to its workforce, construct new buildings and renovate existing structures.
According to Automotive News, GM is in talks with the city of Warren to obtain tax incentives, at which point the plan would be submitted to GM senior management for approval.

GM’s plans could include the addition of as many as 2,000 new jobs in Warren, however GM would not comment on whether those jobs would be transplanted from existing facilities elsewhere.

GM spokesman Dan Flores also declined to comment on the specifics of the tax abatement it had requested from the city, telling The Detroit News Wednesday only that the company is “working to develop a competitive business case to facilitate a multi-year investment at the Warren Technical Center campus.”

This development comes on the heels of news that GM is planning more than $1 billion in expansion for its Arlington, Texas, assembly facility. GM would spend $307 million on the construction of the new facility, with another $986 million going toward new equipment for the plant.
