Cadillac engineers will be working on final testing for the new ATS-V and CTS-V, but brand chief Johan de Nysschen hopes the weather will cooperate and the team can come home boasting of impressive lap times.
“I think these bragging rights are useful,” he told AutoGuide in a recent interview.
The testing will be scheduled for the middle of April, and de Nysschen admits that the weather must cooperate. Most automakers wait until the summer if they are solely focused on setting lap records.
“If they’re in the right frame of mind and the weather cooperates, perhaps something will happen,” added Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell.
The 2016 ATS-V brings a twin-turbo V6 to the table, with 455 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Its 3.9-second zero-to-60 mph sprint time essentially matches the BMW M3/M4, despite a less powerful engine in the German rivals. The CTS-V is even quicker, getting up to 60 mph in jut 3.7 seconds thanks to 640 ponies and 630 lb-ft of twist — slightly better than both the BMW M5 and M6.
The new ATS-V is expected to arrive in showrooms next spring, ahead of the CTS-V in the summer.
