Porsche to ‘substantially’ increase Macan allocation for US

April 11, 2015
Porsche has promised to send even more Macan crossovers to US dealers, after demand has continued to outpace supplies during the model’s first year on the market.
The company is preparing to bring a “substantial” increase in US allocation, with shipments expected to ramp up beginning in May, Porsche Cars North America chief Detlev von Platen told Automotive News.

The executive acknowledges an ongoing waiting list that often forces potential buyers to wait five or six months for their new Macan. The company sold nearly 10,000 units since the model went on sale in May, however it believes the US market could easily accommodate sales of 18,000 units annually.

The move will likely shift allocation away from other markets, but the company appears to be wary of continuing to frustrate its US customer base.

The popular crossover helped the German automaker achieve a 13-percent jump in sales for the first three months of the year, representing a stronger growth rate than BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

US buyers will eventually get a chance to buy the diesel-powered Macan, and a plug-in hybrid variant is also under development.
