Images of what is purported to be the 2016 Honda Civic have leaked to the web. The renderings were part of Honda’s filings to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The images published by Gizmag reveal two body styles, a four-door sedan and two-door coupe. The front halves look identical, with the roofline and rear sections varying depending on the body style. Going by the coupe, the renderings resemble a toned-down version of the neon green Civic Concept recently unveiled at the New York Auto Show.
Design and engineering of the global tenth-generation Civic will be spearheaded by Honda of America and will be the first time a hotted up Type R Civic is made available to US buyers. However, a hatchback mentioned at the NY show does not show up in the patent filing.
Drivetrain options have not been disclosed, but a 1.5L turbo four is predicted, mated to either a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic. The new Civic is expected to go on sale in the fall as a 2016 model.
