Hyundai Equus gains automatic trunk opening for 2016

May 28, 2015

Hyundai is updating its Equus flagship sedan with an available Hands-free Smart Trunk with Automatic Opening for the 2016 model year.
Already available on other vehicles in the Hyundai lineup, the Equus’ new Hands-free Smart Trunk with Automatic Opening system allows the driver to open the sedan’s trunk by simply standing by the rear of the car with the key in their pocket. Hyundai says its automatic trunk opening system is simpler to use than similar systems that require a kick of your foot.

There is a catch, however, as the Hands-free Smart Trunk with Automatic Opening system is only available on the top-spec Equus Ultimate, which is about seven-grand more than the base Signature model.

The rest of the Equus is carryover for the 2016 model year, including the sedan’s 429 horsepower 5.0L V8. Unlikely the smaller Genesis, which can be optioned with all-wheel drive, the Equus remains rear-drive only.

The 2016 Hyundai Equus should arrive at dealerships nationwide over the next few weeks.
