The Tomahawk is the latest addition to the Vision Gran Turismo virtual concept program, borne of collaboration between GT6 developer Polyphony Digital and various automakers. It represents FCA’s 20-year forward vision of existing and future potential technologies.
The single-seat racer’s extreme exterior design was the winning entry in an internal competition that aimed to show a futuristic interpretation of a high-performance Dodge model. FCA rookie and Gran Turismo fan Paul Hoste won the honor, imparting the Tomahawk with an aggressive look that aims to bring a sense of movement and flow.
Innovative technologies include transparent graphene skins for the cockpit and engine cover, a wide-angle V10 powering the rear wheels, pneumatically-driven front wheels and active fast-actuating body panels, among other features.
The mid-engine virtual concept is presented in several different trim levels, ranging from the entry-level Tomahawk S to the range-topping experimental Tomahawk X. The former delivers 792 horsepower from a 7.0-liter V10 engine, while the latter boasts combined output of 2,590 ponies from a hybrid powertrain with a 14,500-rpm V10 — good for a theoretical top speed of 404 mph.
A pneumatic power unit that takes compressed air — collected when the brake are activated or the V10 is at max power — and uses the stored energy to independently drive the front wheels during acceleration. The air system is also used to provide cooling for the carbon brake discs.
“We had fun stretching our minds to create the SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo for GT6,” said SRT Engineering advanced concepts manager Mike Shinedling. “The game places a high emphasis on capturing reality in a virtual environment; our goal was to respect that philosophy by focusing on plausible future technologies that could achieve our vision of extreme performance.”
