Cadillac details CarPlay launch for 2016 models

June 9, 2015
General Motors has announced additional CarPlay launch plans, detailing availability for Cadillac vehicles.
Apple’s projected iOS interface will be added to Cadillac’s CUE infotainment systems with eight-inch multi-touch screens, available on nearly every nameplate for the 2016 model year. The only exception is the SRX, which is due to be replaced early next year.

GM’s luxury marque will also be introducing CarPlay rival Android Auto, though Google’s infotainment upgrade will be phased into 2016 production at an unspecified later date.

Both systems provide access to a wide range of smartphone functions, presenting contacts, text messaging, navigation and third-party apps, all from the car’s own touchscreen display. Many of the features are controllable via voice commands, initiated by pressing a button on the steering wheel.

Cadillac’s CUE hardware has been outfitted with a more powerful processor for the 2016 model year, promising faster start-up, better voice recognition, quicker navigation searches and better media playback. The navigation control structure has also been simplified for easier destination entry, with redesigned map screens and one-touch buttons for commonly-used functions such as route cancellation and muting voice guidance.

Cadillac’s first 2016 models will begin arriving in showrooms this summer.
