The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is rarely a source for big-ticket car news, but when a franchise staple gets a new iteration in conjunction with a large automotive product introduction, it’s hard to look away.
The newest installment in Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport franchise was announced alongside the Ford GT back in January, but this week’s E3 conference gave Turn 10 (the Forza studio) the opportunity to finally show off the in-game engine and what appear to be two significant new features — nighttime driving and dynamic weather.

T10′s trailer shows endurance racers lapping what appears to be Daytona International Speedway in full darkness (complete with fireworks), as well as teasing other venues in dusky settings. An establishing shot of one track shows rain falling in the paddock, and later clips show various exotics attempting to cope with rain-slicked tracks in real time.
Forza Motorsport 6 looks primed to fully take advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware, promising 1080p resolution at 60 FPS, at least 450 cars and 24-car multiplayer with 26 international racing venues featured.
