Ford confirmed to Bloomberg on Tuesday that it will close its Michigan Assembly Plant, which makes the Focus and C-Max, between October 28 and December 16 in an effort to keep inventory levels in check. Inventories of both vehicles began to rise following a 4.2 percent decrease in U.S. auto sales last month.
At the beginning of last month Ford had a 108-day supply of the C-Max and a 58-day supply of the Focus compact. However, weak demand has pushed the C-Max to a 122-day supply and the Focus to 71 days.
So far this year Focus sales have inched up 1.1 percent to 188,654 units. The C-Max, which is in its first full year of sales, has tallied 28,254 deliveries through the first nine months of the year.
Although Ford is trimming Focus and C-Max production, the Dearborn-based automaker is boosting F-150 and Fusion production to keep up with booming demand.
