New Lexus SC could bow next year

June 30, 2015
New details involving Lexus’ SC revival plans have surfaced in the internet rumor mill. The SC nameplate was last used for a four-seat hardtop convertible and was laid to rest in mid-2010.
Rumored to be under development for the last few years, new details surrounding the next-generation SC have surfaced in a recent report by Automobile Magazine. According to the magazine, the all-new SC will be based on the rear-wheel drive architecture set to underpin the next-generation Lexus LS sedan. That should put the SC on equal footing in terms of size with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

Overall styling should mimic that of the LF-LC concept car.

Previous reports suggested that the SC would ship standard with a six-cylinder hybrid drivetrain, but Automobile says the base SC will actually get the same 5.0L V8 found beneath the hood of the RC F coupe. That V6-hybrid combo will be available, though, standing as a mid-level offering with around 500 horsepower. A top-spec F model with a 600 horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 will cap the range.

Pricing will reflect the SC’s premium positioning. Early reports indicate that the SC could carry an MSRP topping $100,000.

If the Lexus SC progresses on schedule, look for it to arrive sometime next year as a 2017 model.
