Spied: Aston Martin DB11 with Mercedes-sourced electronics

July 6, 2015
Aston Martin’s upcoming DB11 super car has been spot testing near Germany’s Nurburgring complete with interior controls sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
In late 2013 Aston Martin inked an agreement with Mercedes that was to cover V8 engine development and electrical components. That agreement is apparently progressing as planned, with the Aston prototype spotted today sporting Mercedes switchgear.

Although cobbled together, it’s clear that this DB11 prototype is borrowing its HVAC and car controls from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe. The digital instrument cluster is also Mercedes-Benz kit.

Curiously, a bit of camouflage with the RAM insignia can also be seen in one of our spy shots. A leftover from the DaimlerChrysler era, perhaps?

Under hood the latest DB car should offer at least one AMG-sourced V8. One of Aston Martin’s own V12s could also make an appearance as an up-rated option.

All of that new tech will be wrapped in an all-new platform that will make use of lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber. Aston’s next super car should be ready in time for a 2016 market launch.
