Mercedes-Benz has released a promotional video showing the autonomous capabilities of its upcoming E-Class update.
The sedan will introduce a range of advanced driver-assistance features, including full autonomous operation on highways at speeds of up to 80 mph. The same sensors will also be put to use when the driver is attempting to park.

The YouTube video demonstrates Mercedes-Benz’ Remote Parking Pilot system on a pre-production camouflaged prototype. The driver can step out of the vehicle and use a smartphone app to guide the vehicle into a space. The car essentially guides itself, but the process is presumably halted if the driver does not press a button to verify that there are no obstacles in the way.
Similar technology is under development by BMW, Audi and Tesla, among other automakers.
The 2017 E-Class is expected to make its debut early next year at the Detroit auto show. It is unclear if Remote Parking Pilot will be immediately available as an upgrade option.
