GM recalls a few Cruze, Volt sedans to fix tie rods

July 17, 2015
General Motors has issued a small-batch recall for the 2014-2015 Chevrolet Cruze and 2015 Volt.
The company in April received a notification from a steering supplier warning of problems with its inner tie-rod assembly machine. A subsequent investigation identified vehicles that had been outfitted with defective parts that had slipped through the supplier’s quality controls.

In affected vehicles, the inner tie rod may not be tightened to specification and may eventually separate from the steering gear.

“Separation of the tie rod from the steering gear could result in the loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall documents note.

The problem is said to be limited to just nine Cruze sedans and a single Volt hybrid sold in the US market.
